Winter has already arrived in the city. The cold breeze urges us to wear our winter clothes to stay warm. Just as we care more for our bodies in the winter season, we must also take care of our winter wear too. Unlike regular clothes, our warm clothing needs special attention.

Winter garments typically use heavy, delicately designed fabrics to retain heat, such as wool, cashmere, flannel fleece, polyester, and nylon. Other options include velvet, tweed, and leather. These fabrics can easily lose their shape and are more prone to pilling, stretching, and odor retention. Proper washing techniques and careful storage can help keep them looking fresh and new.

Here are some tips for washing and caring for winter wear to extend its lifespan.

For machine wash
While washing winter wear, one should turn the garments inside out. Instead of using fabric softeners, aggressive cleaning products, and bleaching agents, use only a small amount of liquid detergent and wash them at a maximum 30°C setting in the machine. It will help to keep sweaters from shrinking. Any other cloth that may contain hooks or buttons can snare on the wool fibers and tug them apart. For this reason, the woolen clothing needs to be placed separately in the machine. Then select a gentle spin, a maximum of 500 RPM. Most importantly, avoid wringing or using a fast spin cycle when machine-washing.

For hand washing
Cold water should be used for hand washing, and the detergents should be gentle enough. It is essential not to wring or squeeze out the garment to remove excess water. Instead of it, lay the garment on a clean towel, roll it up, and press gently to absorb the moisture. Hanging a wet garment is strongly discouraged as it causes stretching.

Why modern washing machines make winter care easier
On the coldest days of December or January, hand-washing winter clothes can be uncomfortable, time-consuming, and harsh on the hands. This is where modern washing machines, especially those equipped with AI technology like Samsung’s, make a real difference.

Today’s intelligent washing machines can identify fabric types, whether it is a wool sweater or a heavy cargo pants, and can automatically adjust the wash for gentle, effective cleaning. They use bubble technology to remove dirt deeply yet softly, helping thick winter clothes stay plush and long-lasting. They save water, detergent, and energy by only using what is needed for each load. This helps keep all kinds of clothes clean without wasting resources.

These machines learn users’ habits and remember favorite settings to make washing quicker, easier, and more convenient. They can also be controlled from a phone to update the user on the wash cycle, making the process convenient when busy or away, allowing the user to control and monitor the wash cycle from their phone, perfect for busy urban lifestyles.

A busy urban life often makes hand washing both impractical and uncomfortable, as it leaves tight, small spaces to do laundry, especially in winter. Intelligent machine washing, on the other hand, reduces physical effort, speeds up laundry time, and protects delicate fabrics with precision.

With the help of advanced appliances taking care of the winter wardrobe, keeping them fresh, warm, and long-lasting has become easier than ever.
