
A delegation from MANAS met with the Honorable Health Adviser, Mrs. Nurjahan Begum, on 18 August 2025 for a brief discussion on strengthening tobacco control measures in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for its significant role in banning the import and production of e-cigarettes. They further urged the Ministry to take prompt initiatives to strengthen the existing tobacco control law to better protect public health.
In response, the Honorable Health Adviser assured her sincere cooperation in advancing tobacco control efforts. She also called upon all stakeholders to show due respect and compliance with state laws that are designed to safeguard public health.
The meeting was led by Professor Dr. ArupRatan Choudhury, President of MANAS. Other participants included Md. Hamidur Rahman Khan (Consultant, Vital Strategies; former Senior Secretary, Government of Bangladesh), Umme Jannat (Project Coordinator, MANAS), and Abu Rayhan (Senior Project & Communication Officer, MANAS).
