CIPRB Marks 21 Years of Excellence in Public Health

Since its establishment on 6 February 2005, the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) has been playing a pioneering role in advancing public health advancing public health and wellbeing. While the organisation initially focused on injury prevention research, over the past 21 years CIPRB has significantly expanded its scope, contributing to critical public health areas including maternal and child health, nutrition, mental health, and the prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

CIPRB has earned global recognition as a trusted institution for public health research. To date, the organization’s researchers have published approximately 230 research papers in prestigious international journals. Nationally, CIPRB has played a pivotal role in formulating at least 10 critical health policies, guidelines, and strategic frameworks. Notably, CIPRB’s evidence-based data on drowning prevention has been integrated into two separate resolutions by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations, marking a significant global achievement. Furthermore, the organization continues to contribute to two global reports on child injury and drowning prevention, as well as national and international research initiatives on road traffic injury prevention.

With a dedicated team of over 6,000 researchers, fieldworkers, and volunteers, CIPRB works toward sustainable health development by empowering local communities. In the past 21 years, more than 5.5 million people have benefited directly or indirectly from its programs, and the professional skills of approximately 61,000 individuals have been enhanced.

To commemorate this milestone, an event was held at the CIPRB conference room. Dr. Salim Mahmud Chowdhury, Director of Health System Research and Road Traffic Injury Prevention Unit, and General Secretary of the Advisory Team, CIPRB delivered the welcome address, highlighting the glorious 21-year history of the organization.

Professor Dr MA Halim, Director, Reproductive and Child Health Division, encouraged urged future leaders of CIPRB to focus on strengthening innovation, quality, and institutional excellence.

During the reflection and commitment sharing session, CIPRB members shared their proud moments associated with the organisation and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing its mission.

Dr Aminur Rahman, Deputy Executive Director of CIPRB, reflected on the organisation’s achievements from its inception to the present day and expressed gratitude for the dedication, perseverance, and collective efforts of all those involved in driving CIPRB’s progress.

Professor Dr AKM Fazlur Rahman, Executive Director of CIPRB, outlined the organisation’s future strategies and action plans. He stated, “CIPRB will continue to respond to emerging challenges by conducting relevant research and implementing effective interventions. With inspiration, courage, and determination, our skilled professionals will carry forward the mission we began to serve humanity through evidence-based public health action.”

He also expressed sincere appreciation to government and non-government institutions, development partners, research organisations, media representatives, and all stakeholders for their continued support.

The event concluded with a closing address by Colonel Imran Ullah Sarkar, PBGM, PBGMMS (Retd.), Director, Human Resources and Administration, CIPRB, who called upon all members to uphold integrity, discipline, and commitment in advancing the organisation’s future journey.
