Dhaka, 8 April 2026: Anti-tobacco campaigns is being broadcasting on TV channel and social media to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco. The initiative is undertaken by the National Tobacco Control Cell under the Health Services Division and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Vital Strategies, a global public health organization, led the campaign by overseeing the entire process from script development to technical execution and overall management ensuring seamless delivery and quality at every stage.
Under this campaign, a total of three separate video spots – ‘E-cigarette,’ ‘Smoking Cessation,’ and ‘Tobacco Cultivation and Environment’– have been produced. Collectively, these videos aim to enhance public understanding of the overall harmful impacts of tobacco and being broadcast ensuring consistent audience engagement and message retention.
The video titled ‘E-cigarette’ highlights the risks associated with e-cigarettes or vaping. It particularly focuses on the growing trend of addiction among youth and the associated health hazards, clearly conveying that e-cigarettes are not a safe alternative. The video titled ‘Smoking Cessation’ emphasizing the benefits of quitting smoking. It illustrates how positive changes begin in the body immediately after quitting and how the risks of heart disease, stroke, and cancer decrease over time.
The video ‘Tobacco Cultivation and Environment’ highlights the severe negative impacts of tobacco cultivation and usage on the environment, including loss of soil fertility, deforestation, depletion of natural resources, and pollution caused by cigarette waste.
With this four-month awareness campaign, the videos are broadcasting on BTV in everyday pick hours. Stop Tobacco Bangladesh (https://www.facebook.com/StopTobaccoBD) and its digital platforms on Facebook, YouTube, X, Instagram and LinkedIn are supplementing this campaign to reach greater audiences. Civil society organizations and NGOs are also sharing this video on their social media platforms.
