The Office of the Chief Advisor has issued a directive instructing that no permission should be granted for establishing factories to produce e-cigarettes or electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and related products in Bangladesh.
This directive was issued in a letter signed by Dr. Ahmed Ullah FCMA, Director General of the Office of the Chief Advisor. The letter has been addressed to the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), and the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), requesting them to take necessary action in this regard.
The directive follows a letter from the Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s Advisor, Nurjahan Begum, and was officially issued on May 18, 2025.
Currently, all forms of e-cigarette and e-cigarette equipment imports are banned in Bangladesh. Anti-tobacco alliances have long been calling for a nationwide ban on the production and marketing of e-cigarettes.
Globally, over 40 countries, including the United States, India, and Hong Kong, have already banned e-cigarettes.
